Del Oro Water Company
Regional Intertie Project
Status Report
Regional Intertie Water Project
BACKGROUND and DESCRIPTION
Del Oro Water has been engaged over a long period of time in finding solutions in augmenting water supplies as well as studying delivery constraints in its Paradise Pines, Magalia and Lime Saddle Districts. The answer to avoid future water shortages is a two-phase project to convey treated surface water through the Lime Saddle District to Del Oro’s northern Districts. Del Oro Water’s capital improvement plan is known as the Regional Intertie Water Project, which is a 7 Million Dollar plus dual-phased endeavor required to comply with the California Public Utilities Commission General Order No. 103. The General Order requires water utilities to provide a reliable, non-interruptible supply of potable water to their customers. The Project is supported by the California State Department of Health Services, the County of Butte and Paradise Irrigation District.
The Regional Intertie Water Project provides a long-term solution to Del Oro Water’s Paradise Pines, Magalia and Lime Saddle District’s water supply problems. Additionally, the Regional Intertie Water Project may provide a solution to the water needs of the greater Upper Ridge neighboring communities. The Regional Intertie Water Project will be constructed and operated so as to minimize environmental impacts and maximize operational efficiency.
Del Oro Water conducted the environmental review of the project, which has been underway since 2004 with Butte County as the Lead Agency under the California Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”). The Environmental Impact Report (“EIR”) on the Regional Intertie Water Project is largely completed; however, as of this date, Butte County has not published or certified a final EIR for the Regional Intertie Water Project. That approval is looked for during the month of May 2006.
The Regional Intertie Water Project is the best alternative to address Del Oro Water’s long-term water supply needs in its Paradise Pines, Magalia and Lime Saddle Districts.
